“Even my close friend in whom I trusted, who ate my bread, has lifted his heel against me.” Psalm 41:9

Betrayal in marriage, relationships, and even in business is probably one of the toughest things to go through in life. It’s no surprise that we find so many examples of betrayal in the Bible.

The serpent betrayed Eve in the Garden of Eden, David betrayed one of his most trusted soldiers by sleeping with his wife, and the biggest betrayal of all was Judas Iscariot who sold Jesus into the hands of his persecutors.

Could you imagine what Jesus must have felt in that moment of betrayal? To see Judas face to face seal his betrayal with a kiss? A gesture that seems so endearing was just a facade that would soon be exposed. Judas chose his selfish desires over the life of a friend who had invested, cared and loved him so deeply.

Living in a fallen world we do understand betrayal in some way. We will all experience betrayal at some point in life and the feeling never gets easier. It’s no coincidence that the Bible shares these stories with us to understand the process, but also so we can learn to overcome and move on.

Jesus felt the sting of betrayal just like you and I have or will feel. But Jesus also knew that His betrayal had a much bigger purpose than His pain. He knew that what the enemy meant for evil God would turn it into something good. In fact thats the beauty in His story and the promise you and I have today. God works all things together for our good.

Betrayal is hard. Betrayal hurts. Betrayal scars. But Betrayal is also freeing, its revealing and its the truth. So while we feel this undeniable pain in betrayal we also gain freedom in the form of truth. Truth that removes the blinders placed over our eyes. The Bible says in John 8:32, "And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

Regardless of what someone's betrayal means to your life never forget that it is God who holds your entire world in His hands. He is your protector and your provider and He will look out for you in every sense of the word. The Bible says in Genesis 12:3 “And I will bless those who bless you, And the one who curses you I will curse. And in you all the families of the earth will be blessed.” That is a huge promise from God! Don’t let betrayal knock you down and hold your life hostage. God is with you and He loves you dearly even when it seems that others don't.
